Game Fowl UK |
Hi my name is Norman Hall. I live in the small port town of Stranraer in South West Scotland (Dumfries/Galloway). I was born on 02/11/1968 so I guess that makes me??38 years young this year, phew! still young at heart. I am a butcher to trade now for the last 21 years or so, need a service medal for that one. I have worked in the family butchers for most of that time. My hobby is keeping game fowl, my wife says I have too many birds in my life and three is a crowd.
I was first introduced to poultry of my own in 1980 when we moved to a farm in a little village called Straid near Ballyclare in Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland. My father went away one night and brought home some layers and a Rhode Island cock to go with them and from that day on his nightmare began. My favourite time of the year was going to the Ballymena agricultural show and need I say my favourite place which I always had to go and see was the poultry tent just to see all the different types of poultry and waterfowl, however my favourite was always the Old English Game, Whither Bantam or Carlisle or Oxford type Old English Game. I have had all three but I must say I prefer the Oxford type because of there fighting spirit that is within them, born to fight and that is still within them even till today.
But then life goes on, you grow up, get married, have children but still like to have the poultry, always there in my blood, I just love them. I love to watch them after a days work; a good way to relax and wind down from a busy day.
I now keep various types of game and looking to keep more types in the days that lie ahead some day. I would like to have a game farm just solely for all types of game from all over the world, not an easy task nowadays with trying to get good breeding stock and also keeping them alive with the space needed for them and trying to stop young cocks fighting, surely not and easy task but still an enjoyable hobby nonetheless.
We all know that cockfighting is banned nowadays over here in the UK but it does still go on in other parts of the world. I have my views on cockfighting, not everyone will agree but we are all entitled to our own opinions. I don’t totally disagree with it and I don’t totally agree with it either. I have watched on DVD a few of the World Slasher Cup Series, 8 Cock Derby. Lovely birds but I am not totally on for the slasher blade on the birds as they fight. I think the fights are very quickly over as well and not always showing the true spirit of the fighting birds in contrast to fighting naturally with their own natural spurs. Yes, it is down to speed, power, fitness and finally endurance because in the wild the bird that endured to the end and seen off the opposition was the bird that claimed the hens and the breeding right to mate and produce his own offspring. Therefore producing a line that was able to hold his territory and keep it until such a time as he was challenged and lost, resulting with the breeding going to another bird.
But I must say American Game are indeed very beautiful birds. There is no denying their lovely tails stand well and very aggressive. But also like the Oxford Game, something similar in style to the Americans in many ways.
The Asian Game birds hold a different type of beauty with them, they are a lot larger, require more feeding and care but have lovely temperaments until they see the opposition. They are hard feathered; some of them are sparser in the feather department but still nice to watch. My favourite for looks in the Asian Game is the Satsumadori, with their lovely posture, the way they stand with their wings slightly out up at the chest and with there long flowing tails.
I have created this site solely for game fowl and to sell my own birds. Also to show some people what I have for sale and if other people would like to sell eggs or birds they can sell or advertise them on my site. I will not be giving out personal details of anyone on my site who is selling. Contact can be made by mobile numbers or email at the seller’s discretion and choice.
I am also a member of the Asian Hard Feather Club and the American Game Fowl Club; I have also registered with DEFRA.
I would like to get a forum up on this site as well, a place were people like us with a common interest in game fowl can discuss about anything on poultry, whether its on breeding or diseases or other interest in the game fowl world. Anyway if you have any questions, do feel free to send me an email.
Regards
Norman
